April Zay
Fine Artist
April Zay is a Fine artist, designer, teaching artist, and founder of Hummingbird Arts Studio. Her passion for art began at three years old. Graduating from the Fashion Institute of New York with a BFA in Illustration, she started her career in graphic design working for high-end companies, including Lenox China. In 2007 she decided to leave the corporate design world and open her own studio. She specializes in pet portraiture in oils and paper works.
In 2009 April started making Origami jewelry. Growing up on the west coast, April learned to fold Origami at an early age. As she got older, April never stopped practicing making and teaching Origami to others. Her love of papers can be seen through the one-of-a-kind jewelry she makes.
April is part of a collaboration called Poetry Takes Flight with Poet/Lyricist Arlene Geller. Poetry Takes Flight items are crafted from handmade artisan papers integrating original poetry, Origami and decoupage.
