Cathy  Dailey

Cathy Dailey is a visual artist who creates vivid and irresistibly playful images of dogs, cats, birds, and other animals. Her chosen media are colored pencil, oil pastel, acrylic paint, and watercolor, but she also works in collage, using her own hand painted papers. Working continually as an artist for over 25 years, she has participated in numerous juried art shows, gallery exhibits, and many fund raisers for animal advocacy organizations.

Her education in art began in a small town in northern California where her mother, an artist herself, taught her many techniques in watercolor, design, and composition. Her father, an avid bird watcher, fostered her love for animals by teaching her to quietly observe birds, a hobby she continues to this day. Cathy was formally educated in art at Mississippi University for Women (MUW) in Columbus, earning her B.F.A. in 1990. Soon after, she moved to Tuscaloosa, AL, where she began creating watercolors of imaginary people inspired by her time living overseas in the Middle East and her travels through Africa and Europe. Later moving to Chapel Hill, NC, Cathy continued to develop her style while managing an American craft gallery. In 2000, she relocated to Athens, GA to emerge as a highly recognized local artist, participating in many art events around the South.

Cathy’s art has graced the cover of Athens’ famous Flagpole Magazine (2002), and has been featured in Southern Distinction (2005) and BellaDog (2011). Cathy also appeared on an episode of “Crafters Coast to Coast” on HGTV in 2004. In 2009 she was one of five local artists chosen for “Art In The Air,” a project organized by the Athens Area Arts Council to display works of art on billboards around the city. In 2015, Cathy was one of five artists selected for the MUW Alumni Invitational Exhibit.

Cathy currently resides in Princeton, NJ, with her husband, Andrew Cole, and their two cats, Sonny and Dora. She continues to participate in many local shows in and around the area and is a member of the artist co-operative gallery, Princeton Makes.
